Started training with the K.U.G.B. at the beginning of 1974 under Sensei Steve Cattle. Gained all grades under Sensei Cattle except for Brown Belt under Sensei Kawasoe. In 1981 gained Black Belt under Sensei Enoeda.
Joined Steve Cattle’s newly formed English Shotokan Academy (E.S.A.) and passed 2nd. Dan under Sensei’s Dirk Heene and Ken Button in 1996. Passed 3rd. Dan in 1999 under Sensei Dirk Heene and a panel of the E.S.A. Technical committee.
Passed 4th. Dan in 2002 under Sensei’s Mark Stevens and Ken Button and 5th. Dan in 2008 also with Sensei’s Mark Stevens and Ken Button.
Holder of National Governing Body coaching certificate. A member of the Southport Karate Team for many years and won numerous North West competitions including 3rd. place in the British National K.U.G.B.Championships at Crystal Palace. Joined Sensei Ken Button’s Hara Academy in 2000.

I started training at Southport YMCA Shotokan karate club back in 1976 when I was
13 years old. I trained and graded under sensei’s Steve cattle and Peter
Collins, who were with the KUGB, until 1979 when I joined the army. I returned
in 1996 after a break of 17 years to restart my training, I was now training and grading under sensei’s Peter
Collins and Alan Hughes who were with the ESA. I then joined Kenny Button's Hara
academy in 2000 and I gained my 1st dan in 2001 under sensei’s Kenny Button 6th dan (Hara), Jim Martin 6th
dan (SRKH Scotland) and Mark Stevens 5th dan (SRKH Belgium) and my 2nd Dan in 2004.

I started training at the YMCA in May 1981 under Sensei Steve Cattle and
continued until the summer of 1984. When, as is often the case with many
people a change of job and working hours resulted in my no longer being able
to train.
I resumed training in 1993 and we had changed from the KUGB to the ESA.
I graded under Sensei Steve Cattle up to 3rd kyu , Sensei Ken Button at 2nd
kyu and Sensei Pete Collins at 1st Kyu.
I achieved my Shodan grade in September 2001, under a panel of Sensei's K.
Button, M. Stevens and J. Martin.
